Richard Branson – Inspirational. Business advise

I am always looking for people who have made a success of their lives regardless of their school grades. Your school grades albeit important do not determine you as a person. You are not a failure if you did not do well at school.
Watch this video of Richard Branson how he explains his background and how he found his passion.

Janine Allis – Boost Juice – Listen and learn

Here is a fantastic Australian lady who created the franchise, “Boost Juice”. She gives the true guts of the highs and lows of being a business owner. She outlines the reality and sacrifices that have to be made if you want to succeed in your business. The IMAGE that most people have in their mind with owning their own business looks a little bit like this. Work / life balance, freedom to come and go as you please, dress as you please, long lunches and catch ups at coffee shops. Maybe for some?? BUT for most, being the owner of a business is actually long hours, limited money, endless meetings, mountain of emails, battling staff and NEVER enough time to do it all. Now that does NOT mean that it is not worth going for it nor does it mean you wont succeed. It is just fair to warn you that you have to be prepared to gain experience in your chosen field and be prepared to put in the hard yards before you get the pay off. It is rarely immediate success but rather a long term picture.
I have been in my own business for over 10 years and can very much relate to her description of life as a business owner. No matter how big or small your business, the fundamentals are always the same.
You can discover more of my journey in the articles ” Owning your own business and the “Synchronicity of life”

I would also recommend listening to part 2 and 3 of this series. :)

Dan Murray – Young Entrepreneur

Dan Murray is a 21 year old Queenslander who had a burning desire from an early age to become world renowned. He had a goal and took action to bring it into his reality. At 17 years of age he launched his now very successful underwear design business, Sly underwear. Even at school Dan had an entrepreneurial flair. The school he attended ceased stocking coke a cola in the canteen so Dan set up a little business bringing cans of coke into the school and selling it to the students and teachers (shhh).  From this he learnt basic business skills such as managing cash, managing stock levels and looking after his regular customers. Dan initially bought the underwear concept and name from his old soccer coach, Dusten Slypen. “Dustin hadn’t taken the business too far, so I made him an offer and the business is now mine,” says Dan. That business is Sly Underwear, selling an everyday product with a difference: Underwear with a built-in pocket for your condoms. “The underwear is designed for young people, the demographic of 18 to 25. The kind of people going to the clubs and parties and that kind of stuff.  After doing some online research, Dan got in contact with the international sexual health organisation Marie Stopes Foundation, who were so impressed with the idea that they provided Dan with condoms to stash in the undies.

Wendy B – successful business woman

HI,   my name is Wendy and I am able to stand before a group of people and speak about myself and my life with confidence but this hasn’t always been the case. I spent much of my life trying to hide behind baggy clothes and a fake smile. I grew up I country Victoria and I lived in a part of town that housed the ‘poorer’ demographic. We weren’t poor but I didn’t know that until much later in life.

Looking back now, I realize my childhood was a hard one. I knew my parents were different from many of my friends parents but I didn’t realize how much so. To be honest, I wouldn’t change a single thing but at the time, I hated my life.

It started the day I was born. Before I was born, my mum gave birth to a baby boy. Unfortunately the baby died in the womb. Dad had only ever wanted a son and he already had one daughter (my older sister). Then his son died and I came next. I was initially rejected because I was a girl but luckily I was so cute….my dad fell head of heals in love with me. Growing up, my dad was a violent man. I was witness to many of my mum and dads violent fights. My mum was a tiny woman and it broke my heart every time I had to mop up the blood on her face or put ice on her bruises. This was a regular occurrence and at times it happened every weekend. It became my version of normal. It wasn’t my preferred life. I would go to bed early every night and spend hours fantasizing about the family I ‘should’ have ended up with.

Jess Watson – Sunshine Coast QLD

Jess Watson is an Australian teen who had a dream. She set out to be the youngest person to sail solo, nonstop and unassisted around the world. She was 16years old at the time. She spent 210 days at sea and no-one can deny the enormity of her accomplishment. Jess faced many obstacles including public opposition to her dream with both her parents and herself facing a lot of criticism. The amount of preparation required for her trip and the forces of nature she had to face on her journey. During the trip, she had to tend to all repairs herself and faced up to 12 metre waves and 70knot winds.

Jess made the decision to undertake this journey at the age of 12 after her mother read her Jesse Martin‘s book Lionheart: A Journey of the Human Spirit. With a nautical background, Jess’ is the 2nd eldest of 4 children and resides on the Sunshine Coast QLD. Her family lived on a cabin cruiser for 5 years at a young age and later on a purpose built bus.

Jess’ is quoted as to the reason for her decision: “I wanted to challenge myself and achieve something to be proud of. And yes, I wanted to inspire people. I hated being judged by my appearance and other people’s Expectations of what a ‘little girl’ was capable of. It’s no longer just my dream or voyage. Every milestone out here isn’t just my achievement, but an achievement for everyone who has put so much time and effort into helping getting me here.”
